Kangaroo Leather Lace – Frequently Asked Questions:

What are the characteristics of kangaroo leather Lace?

Kangaroo leather is one of the strongest and lightweight leathers available today, and yet is soft, flexible and abrasion resistant. Technically, the superior strength of the kangaroo leather is ensured by the structure of its fibers that run horizontally. This amazing strength is not weakened by a necessity of having to split the leather, as the leather is already thin enough to be flexible and lightweight. This makes kangaroo leather lace perfect for leather artisans to fine braid jewelry and create strong whips, horse tack, dog leads and fancy knots.

If only…. you could feel the quality of Packer Leather’s kangaroo leather lace, braid with it, enjoy it’s leather smell and see first hand the beautiful, vibrant colours – you would understand why I use only this superior lace for my braiding, knotting and lacing projects.   Worldwide, I use and resell Packer Leather exclusively!

Where do you obtain your Kangaroo Leather lace?

I exclusively braid with and have available for purchase kangaroo leather lace manufactured by the Packer Leather Tannery of Australia. This is the best kangaroo leather lace I’ve ever used and I am proud to tell you where I obtain it! Packer Leather purchases kangaroo skins harvested through Australia’s government licensed harvest program. Only 4 of the 53 species of kangaroos are harvested and the population of these species at last count was in excess of 31 million. Only vegetable tanned kangaroo hides are used to cut lace to ensure an excellent finished product that is strong, soft and abrasive resistant.

Why are your prices in Canadian dollars?

In 2014 I became the Canadian Reseller of kangaroo leather lace produced in the Packer Leather Tannery and I ship worldwide. Many countries, such as United States, actually enjoy additional value when converting their currency to the Canadian dollar. Please check with the currency converter on my website to obtain an estimate for converting your dollars to Canadian at www.knottylinda.com

What is the easiest way to order kangaroo leather lace?

Although customers do order through my on-line store at www.knottylinda.com, you are welcome to simply email me anytime at knottylinda@gmail.com with your questions and requirements. I just need to know the width and length for each colour or colours you wish to purchase. Then I’ll send you a PayPal invoice. Kangaroo leather lace comes in so many beautiful colours, such as: Aqua, Black, Brandy, Burgundy, Cerise, Chocolate, Dark Brown, Dove Gray, Forest Green, Glossy Yellow, Hot Pink, Jacaranda, Lime Green, Jade, Lavender, Natural, Navy, Orange, Purple, Red, Roan, Royal Blue, Saddle Tan, Sky (Soft) Blue, Soft Pink, Whiskey, White and metallics in Bronze, Gold, Pewter and Silver. On occasion I commission the creation of new colours of kangaroo leather lace to meet the needs of my customers. My customers are alerted when these new custom colours are available for sale, and they have first dibs on purchasing new colours before I offer them to the general public. This is very important since sometimes new colours may be limited to a one time or special purchase only, and once they spools are all sold, they are no more available. The latest new colour, Sky (soft) Blue, is simply beautiful and has been well received in North America.

What widths are available?

There are four basic widths available for purchase:
– 2 mm (1/16”)

Clasps – Frequently Asked Questions:

How are your clasps manufactured?

All of the clasps are manufactured in Europe with a zinc alloy base and silver plate with no nickel! This means that they are less likely to cause any skin reaction!! The clasps are designed to be secure, yet with little effort you can put on and take them off by yourself. This way it is easy to take good care of your fashion accessory by removing it for showers and swimming, and over time the leather will develop a beautiful leather luster patina. Kindly note that the metric to imperial conversions, as well as the suggested braid size for each clasp, are estimates only.

Do you have solid sterling silver clasps available?

I now have a limited number Sterling Silver clasp designs available! Please email me at knottylinda@gmail.com for assistance.

How do you glue the leather strand into the clasp?

Complete gluing instructions will be enclosed with your very first purchase of clasps.

Why do you use a price range for each bracelet design?

When I first started making bracelets I charged the same price for every size. I soon realized that folks with a bigger wrist (usually men) were getting a bargain while folks with a more petite wrist were paying way too much. The retail price of each bracelet is dependent on several factors, such as: complexity of braid; number, length and width of lace strands braided; the length of the bracelet for a comfortable custom fit, and if beads are used in the design. Bracelets are custom fit every quarter inch and I actually price each bracelet based on its total length, how much material is used and how long it takes to braid. It’s
just fairer that way!

What colours are available?

Kangaroo leather lace comes in so many beautiful colours, such as: Aqua, Black, Brandy, Burgundy, Cerise, Chocolate, Dark Brown, Dove Gray, Forest Green, Glossy Yellow, Hot Pink, Jacaranda, Lime Green, Jade, Lavender, Natural, Navy, Orange, Purple, Red, Roan, Royal Blue, Saddle Tan, Soft Pink, Sky (Soft) Blue, Whiskey, White and metallics in Bronze, Gold, Pewter and Silver.

What widths of kangaroo leather lace are available to design my fashion accessory?

I generally use four different widths for my braiding and knotting projects. For fine braiding jewelry I use lace that is only 2 mm (1/16″) wide, and even with kangaroo leather lace this narrow I can pull tight and rarely break a strand! I often use lace that is 2.5 mm (3/32) wide to create just a little wider bracelet and yet still dainty. The most popular, and value oriented, width of kangaroo leather lace is 3 mm (1/8″) and make stunning Snake Belly Braids. For those who would like a dramatic, chunkier bracelet, the 5 mm (about 3/16″) wide kangaroo leather lace would be perfect!

What is the best way to measure my wrist?

It doesn’t matter how petite or large your wrist is, in a couple of weeks I can hand craft you a bracelet from scratch that will provide a comfortable fit based on the measurement of your wrist circumference. To ensure that your bracelet fits perfectly, and to avoid any disappointment, carefully measure the circumference of your wrist with a cloth tailor’s measuring tape to obtain your wrist’s exact measurement in inches or centimeters. If you have a friend who can help, that’s great! Keep your wrist straight and do not flex when measuring – or huff in either! Please do not add length for fit; just advise if you’d like a snug, medium or loose fit. Then I’ll make adjustments to the length of the bracelet base on the bracelet’s design to ensure a comfortable, custom fit. If you don’t have a tailor’s measuring tape available, you may use a piece of narrow paper to wrap around your wrist and mark the length with a pen. Then carefully measure the length of the marked length against a ruler.
A comfortable fit is guaranteed, and should you require assistance please email knottylinda@gmail.com right away if the fit isn’t perfect and I’ll assist you with the exchange.
