Rene Braid Closure for English Bridle Leather Lead:

What a beautiful lead this design turned out to be!  The English bridle leather feels so soft and comfortable in your hands.  Although it took a lot of experimenting and hard work, I figured out how to make the laced Rene Braid, used as a closure for the handle and swivel snap, finished on both the front and back of the lead.   It's so simple, yet elegant.  Many say classy!  I'm just glad that I figured out how to make this braid, and that so many people like it! 

Im getting ready to participate in the Plant and Craft Sale at the Sooke Rotary Auction being held on Saturday, 7 May 2011 at the Seaparc Leisure Complex in Sooke.  I'll have lots of fashion accessories, dog leads and collars, and zipper pulls there - including the new "Sunny Sooke" zipper pull design!

English Bridle Leather for Dog Leads and Collars

This winter I’ve been working so hard, and having lots of fun, in my workshop exploring a new leather medium: English Bridle Leather! I just love the richness of the colours and how soft the leather feels in your hands. As you can see by this new custom design, I can create unique dog leads as a result of my expertise as a knotter and braider specializing in kangaroo leather lace. I’m working on the matching collar now, and a leather bracelet for the dog’s owner!

 I use only 9-10 oz veggie tanned genuine English Bridle Leather for my dog leads and collars to ensure superior strength, durability and stretch resistance. The quality of construction matches the reputation of English Bridle Leather. All edges are hand edged, twice burnished, polished and sealed. The swivel hooks, buckles and O/D rings are made from either solid brass or stainless steel.  Colours available are tan, dark brown, chestnut and black. 

This year I’ll be hosting several vendor booths in Southern Vancouver Island and will have an excellent inventory available of unique dog leads and collars for my customers.   I’m thrilled to be participating in the Sidney Market on Thursday evenings this summer as well as the night market in Victoria on selected weekends.  And, yes, of course, I’ll be back with the “Touch of Salt Spring” in early December. See you at the booth!

A Short Lead for a Large Dog!

 I’m so pleased to present my newest award winning design: A short lead for a big dog!

 I created this lead with a 6-strand round braid over a core that turns into an eight-strand flat braid to form a comfortable wrist strap.   The leather simply glows with good health and beauty.  Prince’s lead is decorated with simple and complex Turk’s-head knots designed to enhance the beauty of the lead while providing additional strength and security.  I used stainless steel hardware for this lead to help ensure that it would last a life time.   This braided lead is so attractive and functional, it was just a pleasure to make!

Oh my Goodness – Where has the summer gone?!!

It was just a month or so ago that I made this custom order eight-foot dog leash for a customer who wanted a very special gift for a very special friend. This leash is braided with purple and pink kangaroo leather lace in a spiral design, and decorated with simple Turk’s-head knots.

 I find it rather ironic that after a lifetime of braiding and knotting, this is the first braided dog leash that I’ve ever made. What I’m particularly pleased about is that after years of designing and crafting fashion accessories and whip handles, it was so easy to make this simple leash!

And now that my customers have discovered I’m braiding kangaroo leather dog leads, I have been busy in the workshop making new leash and lead designs to meet their needs. As well, I’m creating a new line of matching accessories, for both the pet and the pet owner.  I’m so busy, having a lot of fun and can’t get the smile off my face!!

Rene Pride Rainbow Bracelet

Summer has finally arrived in Sooke!!

What fun I’m having working outside in the sun and shade making custom orders.   It seems that everyone wants a Rene Pride Rainbow Bracelet to wear this summer, and I really enjoy making these bracelets for my customers.  I especially appreciate that I can offer this popular laced bracelet in a design to accommodate customers allergic to nickel.  There is no extra cost for this particular design. 

It’s hard to believe; I’m been braiding for a lifetime and yet I am now in the middle of braiding my very first dog lead.  It’s a pink and purple spiral design and perfect for a fancy, much loved, dog!  I promise to post pictures.

Neck Whips and Floggers
Word does get around!
Last year I designed a new neck whip (and neck flogger) in several different styles for “The Dark Room Masquerade” fundraising event.   
This unique, fun and practical fashion accessory has been rather popular!   I’m getting so many requests for details, I thought that I would post a picture of one I made special for Mick. It’s a beautiful black and blue spiral braid with spiral stopper knots on each of the three tails.
